The power goes out… and that is just the start of it!

Ben is away in Canada on a fishing trip with no way for me to contact him. His Uncle died on Sunday just after he left. I had this horrible feeling that something horrible was going to happen because he had not left me with any information as to where he was going etc. So I guess that was the horrible thing. Thankfully he called to check in on Sunday night so I got to get that information to him.
So just as we were eating dinner last night. A big storm rolls through and the power goes out. Normally this does not phase us at all but the problem this time is that the power keeps coming half back so the alarm keeps alerting us every 5 minutes that the power is out. Painfully loud and annoying! By 9pm after several calls to the alarm company (on my cell phone as we have no power so now I am thinking great this is going to run out of battery & we will be totally cut off) they try several things then inform me the only way to stop the beeping - so everyone can go to sleep - is to go to the main box, unscrew it and disconnect the battery. Now this to me right away sounds like a dangerous plan given that I have to get up on a ladder and hold a candle to do this… but hey what choice do we have?! So I give the boys the cell phone with instructions that if Mummy falls off the ladder call 911 immediately and ask for an ambulance. Amazingly I am able to pull off a wire without killing myself. AAAAAAAHhhhhhhh blessed peace.
I forgot to mention that the power was coming in and out enough to make my appliances freak out so I had to go to the circuit board and turn everything off there.
So I read a little by candle light and get some work done then I am about to lay down when I hear crashing outside on the deck. Get up to check, I assume it was the racoons, now no sleep will come. I get a little more work done - surprising what little you CAN get done with no power = no internet or connection to your home network -eeek! Just about to get to sleep and the power comes back on. NOW the alarm wants to scream at me that we have power coming into the house but his wires are not all connected. Thank you Mr Alarm for keeping me in the loop! ARGH! So I get up and attach Mr Alarms wires. He is still complaining about some error but at least he is silent about it.
So now I might as well get everything sorted back out. By the time I get back to bed it is 3am.
I wake up to my alarm at 6am to work out and of course turned it off. I woke up again to the reset at 7am and looked at cuddly ZQ then woke again at 8am!!! So I had to wake everyone throw clothes on them and drive them to school as ZQ missed the bus. I did all the errands that I had planned for that morning on the way back then home to workout, fastest shower in history then rush AQ to gymnastics. AAAhhh quiet sit down for a little while EQ plays with AS and Cyndee and I chat watching the girls. No wait did u say you were taking a breather?? OH NO! We cannot have that! Perhaps things should be spiced up a little… yes thats right Karma says ‘NO BREAK FOR YOU!’ So AQ falls and manages to hit her head on the ONLY non-padded area in the gymnasium. GREAT! I run down and cuddle her. Meanwhile her teacher is telling me she is fine and that she just needs to get back at it. I take one look at her and know darn well she is NOT fine. First off she does not cry for little hurts. Second her skin is clammy and her lips a funny colour and she looks woozy. Yes my friends she has a mild concussion. She starts looking like she might puke (at least then the trainer would have let off)… I manage to get her settled and she does want to finish up the class given that it is only 5 minutes left so I let her go. The girls get their attendance meddles and are thrilled.
I go home and pick up ZQ then get the kids lunch. The boys go off to see C down the street and I try to convince AQ to take a nap with me while we wait for the tree guy to come. AQ turns into figit bunny to keep herself awake despite the head rolling and glassy tired eyes. Sigh. Tree guy never shows.
I picked up boys and proceeded to do errands I COULD have been doing while waiting on tree guy if tree guy had been decent enough to call me and let me know. So I have to drag 3 unwilling kids to do errands. By the time we get home AQ has a fever.
I almost miss returning my neighbours camera to her before she goes to her sons last baseball game of the season.
So I go down to the basement to check on my waterproofing handy work. Yesterday I spent hours fixing it up and did it EXACTLY as the experts had told me to. It looked great. Today I go down expecting a solution and almost burst into tears when I find that though the puddle is less it is not fixed. Remembering an awful arguement recently with husband telling me he is NOT buying the mould solution recomended to us but he will fix it himself. RIGHT!! I want to scream! I mean this has been a problem for more than 3 years now. I have not leat the kids play down there at all in a year. It is driving me crazy and I am furious that he won’t fix this or let me fix it right.
Then I remember that the only things that make me like living here he wants to rip away from me and move and that makes me even more steaming mad at him and I am glad he is not coming home tonight to see the bitch I would turn into should I get the chance to vent on him. So I buy MORE insulating/waterproofing stuff - we are now at $200 and I BET we are still going to need the humidex, infact Mike even told me so today. He said we will need to get an air purifier or and airconditing system — which he KNOWS I won’t go for. Anyway the humidex is cheaper than airconditing.
I get kids feed and wonder why I bother talking as they are NEVER listening to me. We go up to bed and I STILL wonder about my use of my voicebox. I mean really might as well get it cut out at this point! Try to read to them and AQ ends up jumping about and lands so hard on the side of my head I curse and see stars. My head is still throbbing.
So that was my lovely day which was all only really so bad because I had not had enough sleep to deal with it.
The kids are finally asleep so I had better go and clean the house. oh and attach more insulation and try and fix the mould problem. My head hurts, would like to just go to sleep right now… sigh.
Oh to top it off the darn gopher has been eating my garden. And my friend is pissy with me because I am not catching up with her despite the fact that her schedule is impossible to fit into. Sigh.
